Honoring Tandieka Stephens Johnson DeClemente '20

With deep sadness we mourn the passing of Tandieka Stephens Johnson DeClemente โ20. Tandieka was a graduate assistant in Lubinโs Office of Communications and External Relations. She graduated in May 2020 and served as the graduate student speaker at commencement that year. Not too long after graduation, Tandieka was diagnosed with cancer. She briefly went into remission, then this spring, the cancer returned. Tandieka leaves behind her mother, husband, ten-year-old son, and a host of relatives and friends.
While at Pace, Tandieka was very much an engaged student. She actively sought out opportunities to get involved in student life at the University. She looked forward to interviewing students on her International Experience WPUB radio show, she participated in Pace Talks (a Ted Talks-style event), was a member of the IDM Lab, and a Wilson Center intern, among many other things. Tandieka, who was originally from Guyana (and this remained a point of pride for her), started her Guyanese Girl in Transition podcast after graduating from Pace.
Tandieka had an infectious laugh, a charismatic personality, and a fighting spirit, which she embodied until the end. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
