Pedro Rivera ‘12, Communications, is an Anchor/Reporter for WABC-TV Channel 7 Eyewitness News.
What are your first memories of Pace?
My first memories of Pace were from summer football camp in Briarcliff. It was amazing being there that first summer with the team and bonding with them.
Why did you choose to attend Pace?
I chose Pace because they gave me a good financial assistance package. I really thought the campus was gorgeous and it was far enough from the city but still close enough to see family.
How did you get started in your career?
I started my career behind the camera as a news assistant for New York 1 News.
How did your time at Pace shape your career choice(s)?
I learned so much about post-production and pre-production work at Pace, and until this day I use a lot of what I learned at Pace. Pace Career Services helped me line up an interview at WABC TV for an internship, where I would eventually work.
What are you most passionate about in your work? What is the most challenging?
I’m most passionate about helping people and sharing their stories. There is nothing better than highlighting stories in our community. I believe it is my responsibility to speak the truth and hold those in power accountable. I love what I do.
What would you say you’re most proud of in your career so far?
I’m so grateful to anchor for the station I’ve always dreamed of working for. Walking into work every day and seeing so many journalists I grew up watching and admired is a career highlight. I’m truly living a dream that I first thought became possible while studying at Pace.
What are your goals for the future?
Simple: I want to continue to grow as a husband, father, and journalist.
What has led you to want to be part of the Dyson Advisory Board?
I think anyone who has achieved some level of career success has a responsibility of giving back and working to ensure the next generation of students have the tools they need to thrive.
What advice do you have for current Dyson students?
Don't worry if things aren't always in your favor immediately. If you have a goal, believe in it and stay persistent; you can do anything. Also, make sure you surround yourself with positive people.
